I only started gambling problematically 2 weeks ago but I've gone through $1000 which is half of my savings. $700 of it I gambled in two nights on online pokies. I have also been gambling at the TAB. I have gone through my savings once before on online casinos and promised myself I wouldn't do it again. I still have the urge to gamble more to get back my losses. I don't want to lose the rest of my savings or get in debt as I am on a supported living benefit and have no way to get ahead. I have self excluded from all the online casinos but only for 6 weeks. I need to change it to 5 years once the 6 weeks is up. My other plan is to get rid of my online banking so I can't access my savings without going into a branch. if anyone has any other advice or ideas for me please let me know. I know my problem seems small compared to most people but I am worried it will turn into something much worse.

Kia ora beginnergambler. Welcome to the Gambling Helpline forum. Well done for realising you have a problem with online pokies and the TAB. I see that you have also seized the initiative and self excluded from online casinos. There is also a free app that will block gambling ads from your PC. https://betblocker.org/ You can also self exclude from the TAB. helpdesk@tab.co.nz or call 0800 102 106. If you want further support I would encourage you to call Gambling Helpline. 0800 654 655 or text 8006.
