Hi there, I'm an addict ... I started playing (wrong word really) pokies 16 years ago. Took a couple of goes to get into the swing of it and then wam bam I was hooked.
Over the years I have tried so many things to stop playing but I failed at all of them.
I said to myself I can play IF I don't take my eftpos cards, great idea, worked once or twice then the cards came back.
Tried self banning, only to find my arse sitting on a different chair at a different venue
Tried counselling but I did not stop playing
Tried setting $ limits, but I exceeded it (three times - today).
I feel like shite ...
I understand how pokie machines work, I know about RTP percentages, RNG etc but what does that really matter to someone who wants the feeling of winning - big.
My family hear me say (almost everyday) I'm going to give up pokies .... they make me feel bad (for a while until the pain of losing is forgotten)
I'm actually sick of hearing myself saying it ...
I really do just want to stop - permantly. But how?

it's me again,
would be nice if someone else was typing on this site, its a little lonely to be honest!

Well I have been good - but hey its only 4 days...

plenty of time for me to slip up.

And it looks like I may have told a little fib in the post above ... I see I typed that I want to stop permantly .. but I don't.
Just don't want to play locally ... for me, that's were the damage is ... all too easy to walk into a local venue ...

Kia ora,

Sounds like you've been going through a difficult time trying to stop gambling and you've tried a few different options. Wondering if you are able to give our counsellors a call on 0800 654 655 or txt us on 8006. Perhaps we can talk through this with you and develop a strategy.

Kind regards,
Gambling Helpline Team
