We have lost our very important counting threads and I think we need to look at it again as we had some real, measurable progress there.
Part of this site is to tell your story but lets have a progress thread to help you all work on building day by day.

OK I have two scores really. It was 56 when I had my virtual slip. So my cricket score would be 56/4 but it's been 60 days since I spent any of my money on gambling (still worth thinking about as even though I had a 'virtual slip' as Ostrich called it I still bet the urge to go out and gamble in the real world (though to be fair if I had a credit card I'd be saying something different right now).

Ok not sure of actual days need to work that out, but I do know we are 6 days away from 6 months I am very proud of my husband, he is doing so well, I think we are both doing well, apart from money issues and family problems on the whole life is good. and there will be a nice dinner to celebrate 6 months, I was talking to my sisters Nephew on Saturday, he is from her husbands side of the family, anyway he is 19 coping with a drug addiction, for no reason he sat down and told me all about it, anyway he said he has been clean 4 days he said I know it sounds silly but I am proud of myself, I said to him, why is it silly how else are you meant to get to a 100 days without going through day 1 2 3 and 4, each day is important, and I said you will have hard days it is how you handle it that matters, and if you slip we will be here to catch you, my sister has been his rock, she has been unbelievable and he is a good kid he just has troubles, anyway he said how come you and your sister are so understanding, everyone else calls me an idiot, I said well I don't think your an idiot I think you are brave facing it, and I think that applies to everyone here to, we are facing it and we are taking each day at a time, and slowly we are getting there. If one of us slips we are all here to pull them back up again.

Hi everyone Caring girl its great to hear that there are a few positives happening for you and your husband. 6 days away from 6 months is great you guys will make it. I used to go to a group, probably should go again, the group included everyone from the gambler to the non gambler, and each time someone made it to twelve months we had a birthday cake. I never got one but, hey maybe this time I will. Counting the days, today is day 2. By the way Sandy it wasn't ten minutes that I went the other day, I promised myself that that is all it was going to be but is was a couple of hours more than that. A bit like thinking of going in with just twenty dollars, it never stops there, before you know it or care to know it the bank balance is usually very depleted. The other issue that I kid myself on is if I work overtime, then all I am doing is wasting overtime money so no harm done I don't stop to consider that doing overtime especially heaps of it takes away from my own time and time with my children. Or I think that if I do too much money I can make up with more overtime. I think that is something like believing your own b**llsh*t!!!! Anyway a day at a time, it has taken me sooo long to realize that that is all you can do one day at a time, I used to think it was an easy way out just taking one day at a time, but its not it is the way out. My younger brother is a recovered alcoholic and he always would remind me of the one day at a time bit, but I didn't take too much notice, just gave myself too higher goals to attain and of causes sooner rather than later would fall flat on my nose. So here is to another gamble free day!! I do have urges and would like to escape tonight to the casino, so instead I will stay in my garden rags and create havoc with my craft, I am in the middle of sculpting a very very ugly doll for my elder sister, I am hoping that it will look like a country lady and will pose her sitting at a spinning wheel, My sister is very much a country type person lives on a farmlet and has lots of alpacas, rather cute animals. as well she works in the health field, so hopefully she will like the finished creation,

caring girl my eldest son also suffered from a drug addiction which got him into heaps of trouble, and it was difficult to keep supporting him, but glad I did as he is ok now and he is back home as from last week. I am still careful and perhaps ask to many questions which he replies Mum you can trust me? I told him yes Stu I can trust you and I know things have changed, just keeping you safe. He was Ok with that reply. Sometimes I wonder that when we have changed we know we have changed but others don't and it gets difficult waiting for others to accept that change, so rather than not too trust just keeping checks and balances in place so that if things go a bit awry there is no need to lie about it with the fear of dissappointing others. It is invaluable the support you are giving to you nephew, keeping the line of conversation open is so important to these kids.

Hey Jeannie

God on you for having a plan for today when you know your urges are going to be high. Congrats on two days. Everyday is worth a celebration. You seem to be more realistic and are working hard to make it work. good on you.

Fandango, just wanted to say thanks for last night at GA. I really appreciated your advice.

Taysh, it was my pleasure. I know you will be ok.
By the way, I have some good news to share with you after what has been a crappy week.
I have been selected to go on a trip to China for five or six days where the majority of my costs will be covered.
I can't divulge many details, but it is work-related and I will be extremely busy the whole time I am there.
But it will be the trip of a lifetime and I feel it is just reward for all the work I have been putting into my recovery.

Thanks very much Jeannie, very kind of you. I haven't been able to get much work done today as I haven't been able to think about anything else other than the trip.

The housework is isn't fun I know, but when I lived by myself for several years I used to crank up the stereo while I did it. Took my mind off the boredom of house chores. Might do the same for you and take your mind off your urges in the process.

Well done Fandango, even though you will be busy with work I am sure you will enjoy yourself, and you deserve it.

31 days Jeannie that is great, I agree with fandango turn the music up loud and clean that house it will keep you occupied I think the worse thing about house work, is knowing it will need doing again, specially with children and with me the only music I get to turn up loud these days is wiggles or Hi 5, but it is fun all the same.

Taysh I hope all went well today, let us know how it went.

Ostrich it is great to see you back posting regularly it is nice to actually come to check the site and see stuff to read.

Sandy I hope you are ok and come and post your days, you are doing well I know you don't like counting but even just say what your urges are.

Well 5 days of 6 months here, and all going well my husband is a little moody at the moment, but then I think I am too, I have to apologise for my long boring post yesterday, I have no idea where it all came from, but the vent was fantastic, anyway, I was still a little grumpy last night and unfortunately my poor husband who was already grumpy copped it a little, started nagging about everything that needs doing around the house, anyway nothing got done, oh well,

Ok well I hope you are all safe

Take care

Hi all.

Well decision made, I'm going bankrupt. I'm surprisingly not too upset about it. It's going to be stressful for the about two-three weeks as I will file next week and then have to do all the paper work. Once it's sorted I should just be able to get on with life (and probably a bit easier than under the strict budget I had made for the creditors pool - but not sure yet). I'm a bit nervy but also a bit relieved. I'll let everyone know what the process is like as I'm sure there are others who might be facing bankruptcy who visit the site. Hopefully it goes smoothly. I'm looking over the forms as we speak. It's awful looking at the debt you're in, it just makes my throat close and I just can't believe how deep I got.

What on earth is going on with the Glorp/Chicago Guy thing. I'm lost, is anyone else?

Hope everyone else is fine.

Looks like I am going to make day 3 nearly didn,t as the urge came on very strong this afternoon, in fact early this morning I was making plans to escape like 1am in the morning, I am going to have to learn to use commas full stops etc, it is three days not thirty one but hey now that that has been said I better stay gamble free for at least 31 days. Thanks for the extra goal caring girl. I mean that sincerely. thirty one days should bring me close to christmas!!!! Anyway still one day at a time.

Music certainly does help with house work, at the moment we are in the middle of reno's which make it all the more fun.

Taysh a huge decision to go bankrupt. That is certainly one way to close a chapter and open a new one, I guess the main problem is the five year thing, but still every negative there is a positive, that gives you time to reconsolidate, without things hanging over your head. Maybe it might help to look at it as an opportunity rather than an inevitable outcome. Hopefully you will gain a lot by this, although that would be pretty difficult to see at the moment. HANG IN THERE

I am sorry Jeannie I had a typo there I do apologise, but it is a very good goal to have and yes it will bring you alot closer to Christmas, and one day at a time is the only way.

Taysh I think bankruptcy is a good option it will take some of the stress away and you did try every other option first so well done, yes looking at figures can be really hard and depressing, for me pay day is like that, my husband earns good money and to be broke at the end of payday is a real pain, so at least with bankruptcy you do not need to go through that, you can start a fresh and concentrate on your recovery and enjoying life. As for the glorp and Chicago guy, Chicargo Guy I think is pretending to be glorp, and Glorp is really mad, can't say I blame him.

Well done Taysh, I am proud of you, gutsy decision. It's natural to feel nervous, but I think you are doing the right thing.
This way you can concentrate on rehabilitating yourself emotionally as well as financially.
I think you were under such stress potentially with the creditors pool that you would have been high risk for a slip if something went wrong with the repayments, however small .
This way you can get some breathing space and regroup.
I think you are right about the Chicago Guy-Glorp. I have said this on the other thread. Doesn't ring true at all.

HI Everyone, Day 4 is about to start.Never did finish all that house work yesterday leaves me plenty to do today. The builder is coming in this morning to finish one of the boys bedrooms and then its off to buy paint and the teenagers are going to paint his room. last time stephen did this there was no demarkation line between walls architraves etc. When I gently suggested to him that you have to cut in first before you start painting the walls . His reply! But Mum its the dodgy look!!!! Which is very true it really does look dodgy. I am hoping that he will be able to curb his artistic talents ( he is somewhat of an artist) to choosing hideous paint colours Who knows what the outcome will be!! So I guess being saturday its house work too rap, not my most desired type of music. Then again if I put on what I like country 60's stuff there would be a mass exit of all teenagers from this household Maybe that is not such a bad idea.

Hey Taysh day 4 off thirty one leaves 27, don't forget to type another typo in 27 days time will you. Keep me too my goals.

Have a gamble free day everyone

Hi all
I spent last night cleaning my house, I babysitted yesterday 5 children and we had a heap of rain here recently and Mud everywhere, anyway my floor is now spotless, and the house is clean so I am going to take the boys somewhere, do some shopping, I will try and keep it clean for the weekend, we have 4 days to go until 6 months, I mentioned it to my husband last night he was in shock at how fast it has gone in someways, we had a good old chat about it all, I asked him if he finds it easier now, he said he still misses the machines, he does drive past them sometimes and thinks maybe, but he knows he is not capable of just putting a few dollars in, and he just remembers all the bills he has to pay, I still fear that when all the bills are paid weather he can still be so strong, but I guess it is oneday at a time and it will be for a long time and hopefully when he gets all his tools back he will be too busy fixing things and organising the garage, to even think about gambling, he did say he does not think about it any where near as much which has to be good.

Jeannie, boy living in a house being renovated, how on earth do you keep that clean?, Your sons crack me up, dodgy look, my brother is like that his clothes he pays a fortune for and they look like they come out of a second hand shop, I hope the paint choice is not to hideous, but then embrace his artistic side at least a coat paint can always fix it later. Well I hope the house work keeps you busy and you breeze through day 4, I like your new goal off counting down too.

Taysh how are you feeling today? I hope you are well, I really do think life will get easier for you now.

Fandango how are things your end today still excited about your trip?

Sandy I hope you are well today?

Ostrich I know you rarely post on the weekend but I hope you have a great weekend?

Ruth how are you going you have been a little quite I hope everything is ok.

Tegraboy hope you have a good weekend and post again soon.

well I think that is about it for now I hope everyone else is doing well I see we have a few new comers, on the sight which is always nice, so I wish everyone the best Stay safe and take care.
